The car rental industry seems to be listening to reports that it should add more luxury cars to its airport offerings.
In June, Avis added Select Go at 20 airports and it allows renters to upgrade to specialty cars on the spot, Bizjournals’ Seat 2B blog reports. Just last week, Enterprise Rent-A-Car opened its Exotic Car Collection at Los Angeles International Airport, the tenth location of a program that offers everything from Corvette convertibles and BMW Z4s to Maserati and Jaguar sedans.
A few days earlier, Hertz added Porsche Panameras to its Prestige Collection, the 11-year-old scheme that pioneered the idea of offering better, plusher and flashier rental rides.
Then there’s this: BMW will dip its toe directly into the car rental pool later this month. About a dozen dealers in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut will test a U.S. version of BMW on Demand, a popular German operation that offers select BMWs for rent by the hour or by the day.
