Corvette convoy heads from Peoria to Memphis for a good cause

May 3, 2012

PEORIA, Ill — Gentlemen, start your engines!

The first ever Peoria to Memphis Saint Jude Corvette drive took off on Wednesday morning.

Nearly 40 corvettes revved up their engines in Washington this morning, before heading out to the Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

They’re driving the 930-mile dash to Memphis, Tennessee to tour the hospital and raise awareness for the Saint Jude Peoria affiliate.

Organizer Mike McCoy says the event raised about $50,000 — all going towards helping children with cancer.

“This is going to be an annual event,” McCoy said.  “People are excited about this.  You know, raising money for a great cause, a couple days of good riding, and it’s a beautiful day.  The sun’s up.  You couldn’t ask for anything better.”

The caravan will return tomorrow after Saint Jude patients are treated to a corvette show.
