Chevy Corvette to be Featured Marque at 2013 Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion

Next year, Chevrolet will celebrate the Corvette’s 60th anniversary and the famous American sports car will be the featured marque at the 2013 Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca next August.

The Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion features historic race cars on the track annually, and next year there will be plenty of famous Corvettes making their rounds on the famous Laguna Seca Raceway. The Corvette was also the featured marque back in 2002.

Its rich racing heritage dates back to 1956, when a trio of Corvettes competed in the 12 Hour of Sebring. Four years later, the sports car was racing at Le Mans, and in its first year of competition at the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans race it captured a first-place finish in the GT class.

Since then, Corvette Racing has been highly successful, having won the 24 Hours of Le Mans seven times, most recently in 2011. It also has quite the history at Laguna Seca, including a one-two sweep earlier this year at the American Le Mans Monterey race.

“We look forward to working closely with the Corvette team on making next year’s celebration a monumental one for Corvette racers, owners and automobile enthusiasts,” said Gill Campbell, CEO/general manager of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. “The Monterey Peninsula will rumble to life with Corvettes of every era.”
