1964 Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe
Headlining the 22nd installment of Gooding Christie’s flagship live auction event is one of the most important American automobiles ever built, the 1964 Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe, chassis CSX2300. One of only six Cobra Daytona Coupes created with the explicit intent to defeat Ferrari’s 250 GTO, CSX2300 made its global debut at the 1964 Tour de France Automobile with American Bob Bondurant and German Jochen Neerpasch at the wheel. CSX2300 was a key participant in Shelby American’s incredibly historic 1965 FIA GT championship season when Shelby defeated Ferrari. It became the only Cobra Daytona Coupe to continue its competition career beyond Shelby American’s factory program, racing successfully in Japan through 1968. It would also become the only Daytona Coupe to be owned by its creator, Carroll Shelby himself, from 1975 to 1998. This beautiful, thrilling, and historic dual-purpose GT car is eligible for premier international concours and vintage races.
1963 Ferrari 250 P
The first-ever “P” car, chassis 0810 was Ferrari’s original mid-engine V-12 sports-racing prototype. It made its debut at Monza and was retained by Scuderia Ferrari for the 1963 season. With Scuderia Ferrari, 0810 placed 2nd Overall at the 12 Hours of Sebring with Willy Mairesse, Lorenzo Bandini, and Nino Vaccarella, and placed 3rd Overall at the 24 Hours of Le Mans with Mike Parkes and Umberto Maglioli. In 1964 and 1965, it was campaigned by Luigi Chinetti’s North American Racing Team (N.A.R.T.) and William McKelvy’s Scuderia Bear, involving outings at Sebring, Le Mans, Bridgehampton, Mosport, Nassau, and other important American circuits. 0810’s provenance includes an impressive roster of pioneering collectors, including Carl Bross, Ken Starbird, and Don Fong. This Ferrari 250 P, one of the defining competition cars of the postwar era, stands proudly among the most important Ferraris to ever be offered at auction.
1959 Maserati Tipo 61 Birdcage
Among the most iconic and desirable of all Maserati competition cars, this automobile, chassis 2452, was the first production Tipo 61 Birdcage and is one of just 17 examples built in total. Successfully campaigned in West Coast events from 1959 through 1963, it was raced by Bob Drake, Jim Connor, Jim Hall, Bill Krause, and Ken Miles. Its provenance includes noted collectors Joel Finn, Steve Earle, and Robert Rubin. Today, 2452 is presented in one of the model’s most beautiful and recognizable blue and white period liveries.
1968 Porsche 907 Langheck
The leading Porsche of this year’s Pebble Beach Auctions is the Porsche 907 Langheck, chassis 907-005. Constructed for the 1968 World Championship season, 907-005 made history as the first Porsche to win a 24-hour race outright when it anchored a remarkable 1-2-3 finish for the Stuttgart marque at the 1968 24 Hours of Daytona. This landmark Works Porsche features ultra-streamlined long-tail bodywork and an exotic four-cam flat-eight engine. Its period race history also includes placing 2nd Overall at the 1968 Monza 1000 Km. In more recent years, 907-005 was restored to exacting standards by marque authority Joe Cavaglieri, with meticulous attention paid to every detail, from the use of period German ski-binding latches to its mesmerizing luminescent roundel. Featuring exceptional provenance, robust documentation, and exhibition history, 907-005 is undoubtedly among the most significant early Porsche endurance racing cars ever offered for public sale.
1973 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS
Gooding Christie’s is delighted to present this single-owner Ferrari Dino 246 GTS, chassis 06698, owned by legendary Grammy Award-winner and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member Steve Winwood from new. This right-hand-drive E-series Dino is one of only five ‘Chairs and Flares’ examples delivered new to the UK, and uniquely the sole example originally specified in the period color of Nocciola Metallizzato (Metallic Hazelnut) over black upholstery. It was also the only such Dino 246 GTS to be delivered to the UK in its particular specification including wider Campagnolo wheels and Daytona seat inserts. Purchased directly from Sytner of Mapperley in Nottingham, Great Britain, via the official UK importer Maranello Concessionaires Ltd., this ultra-desirable 246 GTS has remained with Winwood for over 50 years. Approximately two decades ago, Winwood commissioned a restoration by noted Ferrari specialist Bob Houghton, refinishing the car in its present dark blue livery with tan leather upholstery.
1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing
An exceptional Gullwing in a rare specification more common to alloy-bodied examples, this car retains its matching-numbers NSL-series engine per factory records. Equipped from new with Rudge knock-off wheels and highly desirable sport suspension, this Gullwing comes presented in original German Racing Silver (DB 180) with red upholstery and plaid inserts. Restored for its long-term owner by the renowned Bob Smith coachworks, it is offered with Karl Baisch luggage, belly pans, tool kit, jack, and knock-off hammer.
2024 Ferrari 812 Competizione
Offered without reserve, this Competizione is the ultimate development of Ferrari’s 812, and one of just 999 examples built in total. Presented in the extraordinary Extra Campionario Bianco Italia color scheme, it comes with $157,099 in factory options, including carbon fiber wheels, front lift, and Daytona rain seats. Accompanied with books, cover, battery tender, service records, and its Ferrari Yellow Book, it shows less than 200 miles from new.
1931 Bentley 4 1/2 Litre Supercharged ‘Blower’ Sports Tourer
One of the 50 original factory supercharged ‘Blower’ Bentleys, this Vintage Bentley has undergone a concours-level restoration by Vintage Bentley Engineering in the UK and McDonald Vintage Restoration of Oregon, and was awarded First in Class at the 2022 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance®. This example, chassis MS3927, presents much as it did when it left Bentley Motors, retaining its original Vanden Plas coachwork, Le Mans seats, and most of its original running gear. It boasts a known history from new, as documented in a report on file by marque authority Dr. Clare Hay.
1931 Stevens Miller ‘Bowes Seal Fast’ Special
This 1931 Stevens Miller ‘Bowes Seal Fast’ Special, engine no. 2, won the 1931 Indianapolis 500 with driver Louis Schneider and mechanic “Jigger Johnson.” This important race car comes from a chain of prominent owners, including Bob McConnell, Robert Rubin, and David Uilhein. Restored during Uilhein’s ownership, this Miller serves as a reminder of the spirit, ingenuity, passion, and design unique to American racing.
1930 Packard 734 Speedster Runabout
This 734 Speedster Runabout features Packard Custom Bodyworks coachwork. Among the most desirable and sporting Packards of the Classic Era, and one of just 39 Runabout Boattails built, this 734 Speedster Runabout was one of America’s fastest and most advanced automobiles of its time. An award-winning example, including First in Class at Pebble Beach, this Packard’s remarkable provenance includes Ralph Stein, Otis Chandler, and Ray Scherr.
