Semi with 10 C8’s Stolen

Authorities reported that Isaiah Walker, a 23-year-old from Lawton, Oklahoma, seized a semi-truck transporting over $1 million worth of new Corvettes from an Arizona truck stop, claiming he needed a ride home after his release from prison.

According to the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office, Walker assaulted and robbed a truck driver at the Loves Truck Stop in Willcox, near Interstate 10. He engaged the victim in conversation about the truck’s cargo, then suddenly attacked him and forcibly ejected him from the cab, exploiting the victim’s trust.

Driving off with the semi, which contained 10 Chevrolet C8 Corvettes valued at over $1.25 million, Walker evaded a pursuing deputy, driving recklessly and endangering other motorists.

Ultimately, law enforcement managed to halt the stolen truck, leading to Walker’s arrest. Despite the valuable cargo, Walker claimed his motive was solely to find transportation home after his prison release.

Facing multiple felony charges, including robbery and theft-related offenses, Walker was incarcerated in Cochise County Jail.

Fortunately, the stolen truck was recovered undamaged and returned to its rightful owner for completion of its delivery, as confirmed by Willcox Police Chief Dale Hadfield, who commended law enforcement for their professionalism and restraint in resolving the situation peacefully and safeguarding public property.

John T’s 1956

When I was ten years old, my cousin gave me a ride in his first-generation Corvette, an experience I will never forget. Years later, after owning countless cars, I picked up a mid-seventies Corvette. It was a great car, but I still yearned to own an earlier generation Corvette. I sold my current Corvette and started shopping around for my dream car. Only after checking out local publications in nearby small towns did I come across a fully restored nineteen fifty-six Corvette for sale. One look at it and I knew I had to have it. After some fast negotiating, I bought it.

I felt so great climbing behind the wheel of that old classic so I treated her tenderly. After leaving his driveway, I drove down the road and turned onto a divided highway, heading home with my prized possession. Driving slowly and respectfully, I reached a top speed of fifty-five miles per hour and noticed I was missing some paperwork, so I needed to turn around. I put on my left blinker, changed lanes, and began to slow down to turn left at the next intersection.

Unbeknownst to me, an anxious driver behind a line of cars in the other lane decided to make a speedy pass and misjudged the maneuver. Seconds later, he struck me nearly broadside. The impact took us both down the road about fifty yards. Fortunately, I only suffered a broken hand and some cuts and bruises. Obviously, the car faired much worse. It was totaled. The police were on the scene immediately and helped pull me out of the vehicle.

Since my injuries were minor, the officer asked if I didn’t mind making a stop before he took me to the local clinic. He drove me back to where I purchased the car. The previous owner stepped out of his house and, after seeing me, asked about the car. The officer calmly explained that parts of the car were littered along the highway while the rest was being towed to a local collision shop. If that wasn’t disturbing enough, the officer’s following statement did the trick. “I looked at the paperwork. You forgot to sign the title, so you still own the car.”

I recovered from my injuries, and for curiosity’s sake, I revisited the site of the incident. I timed just how long I owned the car prior to the accident. It was all of fifty-seven seconds. I understand that after a few years, the car remarkably received a complete restoration. For me? I was lucky enough to fulfill my dreams later on when I was able to purchase a nineteen fifty-seven beauty.
