According to reports, pop artist Peter Max did not pay two New York men out of commissions on the sale of his storied Corvette collection. He is further accused of selling a New Jersey woman artwork that was “ghost painted” for him.
Jeff Wallner and Kenneth Simmons are suing Peter Max and his agent Larry Moskowitz for $1 million, claiming Max asked them to sell off his collection of 36 Corvettes in exchange for a 10 percent commission. The corvette collection was bought from the VH1 contest winner and included one Corvette from each year between 1953 and 1989.
Wallner and Simmons also helped sell Max’s famous “Statute of Liberty” painting to a collector for $500,000, but when the collector learned that the Max had not personally painted the painting, but had rather had a ghost painter paint it and just signed the finished piece, they had to give her a Marilyn Monroe original by Max and four portraits, the suit says. Wallner never got a cut of the sale.
