Corvette Engineers Reveal What’s Next at Carlisle

One of the highlights of the Corvettes at Carlisle gathering is hearing directly from the people responsible for designing and engineering America’s sports car. This year, Corvette Vehicle Chief Engineer Josh Holder and Product Marketing Manager Austin Fisher took the stage with plenty to talk about, including the new 2027 Corvette Grand Sport, Grand Sport X, and the next-generation LS6 V8.

The biggest news centers around the new 409-cubic-inch LS6, which represents the sixth generation of Chevrolet’s legendary small-block V8. Producing 535 horsepower and 520 lb-ft of torque, Chevrolet says it delivers the most torque ever from a naturally aspirated Corvette V8.

And then there’s the new Grand Sport X.

The GSX combines the LS6 with the 186-horsepower front electric motor from the ZR1X, producing a combined 721 horsepower. Chevrolet says that’s enough to launch the Grand Sport X from 0–60 mph in just 2.4 seconds and through the quarter-mile in 10.4 seconds.

Holder also discussed the mighty ZR1 and ZR1X, along with some of the engineering details behind the newest C8s. One interesting topic was the air deflectors seen underneath certain new Corvettes.

From the Stingray and Grand Sport to the Z06, ZR1 and ZR1X, the C8 Corvette family continues to grow, and Chevrolet certainly doesn’t appear finished pushing the limits.

Our journey began in Bern, Switzerland, taking the car shuttle train from Kandersteg into Italy. From there, we traveled through Piedmont and Lombardy, along beautiful Lake Maggiore, past Milan and through Emilia-Romagna before reaching Tuscany near Rosignano Marittimo.

After a week exploring places including Bolgheri, Cecina Mare, and Volterra, we began our return along the Italian coast, passing through Cinque Terre and Genoa before heading toward Turin. From there, we traveled through Aosta and the Gran San Bernardo Tunnel back into Switzerland, eventually returning to Bern.

We avoided highways throughout the trip, choosing country roads instead. By the time we returned, we had covered 4,500 km (2,812 miles) in a car built in 1943!

It was a fantastic adventure and a wonderful reminder of just how durable these cars can be.

1965 Milano Maroon Corvette L76 Coupe

Milano Maroon, 365 HP & A 4-Speed — This ’65 Has It All!

The 1965 model year was a milestone for Corvette, the final year of mechanical fuel injection, the first year for the big-block, and the introduction of four-wheel disc brakes. With six engines and three transmissions available, buyers had more choices than ever.

This stunning Milano Maroon Coupe is a local Southern California Corvette and one of the nicest ’65s we’ve had the pleasure of offering in quite some time.

Milano Maroon debuted in 1965 and was offered for only two years. The color absolutely comes alive in the sunlight, especially paired with the matching Maroon interior.

The car received a complete frame-off restoration in 2007 by renowned Corvette expert Steve Luvisi of Automotive Expertise and went on to earn an NCRS Top Flight Award.

Under the hood is the highly desirable L76 327/365hp small-block, essentially the carbureted counterpart to the legendary L84 fuelie. Paired with a 4-speed manual, it makes this Corvette every bit as exciting to drive as it is to look at.

Equipment includes power brakes, power windows, teakwood steering wheel, telescoping steering column, AM/FM radio, aftermarket aluminum knock-off wheels, and Goldline radial tires.

Mid-year Coupes are hot right now. With its striking color combination, award-winning restoration, 365hp L76 and 4-speed, this ’65 checks all the right boxes!

Under the hood is its matching-numbers, fuel-injected 327/360hp V8, paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. It also retains the distinctive “Elephant Ear” brake cooling scoops, one of the signature features of the competition-bred Z06 package.

Adding to its provenance is exceptional documentation, including photographs of the original dealer invoice, window sticker, and NCRS Shipping Data Report. It was originally sold through Paramount Chevrolet Co. in Downey, California.

One of only 199 built. Fuel injection. Matching numbers. Award-winning restoration. Outstanding documentation. This is the caliber of ’63 Z06 that rarely becomes available!

Some Random Thoughts

Some decisions are easy. Then someone gives you a second option.

The five-second rule gets a lot more flexible when it’s something expensive

I wonder how many arguments have ended because someone forgot what they were arguing about.
